Things to do Tuesday! – Adopt a pet

Allow me to introduce you to the newest member of my Rochester family….

Boulder

Boulder the kitty!

My roommates and I adopted Boulder from the Lollypop Farm last week and have been amazed at how much we’ve grown to love something in just a few days (who am I kidding… we fell in love when we met her!). Her previous owners moved away and left her alone in the house (who would do that?!), and she made her way to Lollypop shortly after that. The adoption process is quite detailed at the Farm, to make sure that the right people are paired with the right pet. After filling out a short questionnaire about your preferences in animal, they take you to a “meet and greet” room, where you are allowed to choose the cats that you thought you liked the best. Buuuut, being that my roommate and I are both incredibly indecisive AND love all animals equally, we had THE hardest time choosing. We met five cats total, but none had quite the spunk that little Boulder has.  She jumped up on our laps immediately, rubbed up against our hands so we could pet her, and we knew at once she was the one. It was like speed dating, cat style.

Since bringing her home, I’ve learned that she likes small, dark spaces (under my bed, in my shirt drawer, under the dresser, etc etc), exploring the basement and getting covered in cobwebs, jumping up on high places, snuggling in the crook of my arm and being scratched under the chin. She is a spoiled little kitty. She loves everyone, and everyone loves her! I think Andrew might like her more than me…

Before adopting, make sure you can handle the responsibility of caring for another heartbeat… animals need a lot of love and attention and the bills can get expensive! But if you know you can handle it, and you’re looking for a little bit of love in your life, I would recommend paying a visit to your local animal shelter or humane society, and saving the life of a kitty (or dog!) in need… I promise they will save yours too.
